The W-Series or wireless neural headstage system, allows researchers to continuously and simultaneously monitor up to 64 neural electrodes collecting Local Field Potentials(LFPs) and single unit or spike data. Neural recording experiments no longer have to be constrained by wiring an animal to the recording system. The W-Series system is comprised of a proprietary RF headstage transmitter with integrated rechargeable battery, receiver/baseband demodulator, power supply and all required cables. With an effective range of 3 meters, the miniature light weight transmitter provides a wireless connection for birds and mice as well as larger animals like rats and primates. LEDs for video tracking and external batteries for 24 hour and 5 day battery life are also available for the transmitter.

Triangle BioSystems, Int’l. has developed a dual wireless neural headstage system that allows researchers to continuously and simultaneously monitor two freely moving animals in the same or adjacent cage. Each of the headstage systems have different RF carrier frequencies and radio components that allow any combination of 5, 16, 32 and 64 channel wireless systems to work side by side within the same transmit range of 3 meters. For example, two 32 channel systems, or one 16 channel and one 5 channel, or two 5 channel systems can operate together in the same cage without interfering with each other. For the first time 2 animals can be simultaneously monitored in the same cage without having to worry about tangled tethered or commutator connections.

The M-Series or multiplexing neural headstage system will significantly reduce the number of wires required for animal neural recording in a tethered environment without reducing the input electrode channel count at the headstage. Our new M-Series headstage and receiver used with an inexpensive 9 wire cable/commutator can now connect to over 200 independent channels of electrode connections. Bulky and heavy cable harnesses and expensive motorized commutators for channel counts above 32 channels are no longer needed for your behavioral experiments.

TBSI offers a family of tethered 4, 8, 16, and 32 channel headstage subassemblies that are used to provide a wired connection between implanted electrodes and neural recording analysis equipment. The main function of these headstages is to precondition the neural signals with voltage gain and bandpass filtering and provide a buffered connection over a low impedance cable. Each headstage design is based on a custom, low power VLSI chip developed by TBSI. The result is a packaged solution with superior performance in a very small form-factor with less weight.
